Zenit and Lazio go head to head in the Champions League group stages round 3 on Gazprom Arena in Saint Petersburg.
Zenit made a slow start to their Champions League campaign, with the team losing to both Club Brugge (1-2) and Borussia Dortmund (0-2). The Russian champions were favorites to win against Brugge but they missed several chances in the second half and were punished in the dying minutes. They lost in the next game deservedly in Dortmund but there were some signs of improvement. The Russian giants did manage a convincing 2-0 victory against Khimki in their previous game and will need all three points from this fixture. For Zenit St Petersburg, the goalscorers were Andrei Mostovoy (18') and Aleksandr Yerokhin (78').
That has been a rare occasion that Zenit St Petersburg have managed to hold out a clean sheet for a full 90 minutes. The reality is that they have been conceded in 5 of their previous 6 matches, giving up 8 goals in the process. Until the recent losses to Brugge and Rubin Kazan, they had gone since November 2019 without a home loss.
Zenit Saint Petersburg will be unable to field Malcom against Lazio. Sardar Azmoun is not fully fit at the moment and remains a doubt for this game. Wendel has joined the club from Sporting Lisbon and is set to start for Zenit Saint Petersburg this weekend.
Zenit (4-4-2): Mikhail Kerzhakov; Douglas Santos, Dejan Lovren, Yaroslav Rakitskiy, Vyacheslav Karavaev; Yuri Zhirkov, Wendel, Magomed Ozdoev, Aleksandr Erokhin; Sebastian Driussi, Artem Dzyuba
Lazio kicked off their Champions League campaign with a 3-1 win over Borussia Dortmund, but the team had a very difficult time due to coronavirus situation and without 11 players earned a valuable draw in the second round with Club Brugge in Belgium. Key attacker Ciro Immobile has been struggling with match fitness had a red card against Inter and taking all that happened for them at the start of the season Lazio played some great football.
Lazio completed a simply incredible comeback at the weekend in a seven-goal thriller, as they were 3-2 down at the 94th minute, yet managed to beat Torino 4-3. It was an extraordinary match, with Andreas Pereira’s debut Serie A goal canceled out by Bremer’s header and an Andrea Belotti penalty. Sergej Milinkovic-Savic fired in a free-kick and late on, Sasa Lukic pounced on a Wesley Hoedt howler to restore Toro’s lead. Deep into stoppages, the referee awarded a debatable penalty that Ciro Immobile converted and Felipe Caicedo snatched victory from close range.
Lazio have several problems in their squad despite the fact situation is a lot better than at the previous games. Senad Lulic, Silvio Proto, and Stefan Radu are currently injured and have been ruled out of this game. Luis Alberto has tested positive for the coronavirus and both Manuel Lazzari and Anderson are currently in quarantine.
Lazio (3-5-2): Thomas Strakosha; Patric, Francisco Acerbi, Nicolo Armini; Mohamed Salim Fares, Danilo Cataldi, Lucas Leiva, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, Patric; Ciro Immobile, Joaquin Correa

Zenit lost their chances for the knockout stage of the UCL at the first game when they lost to Brugge but they will fight until the end for the UEL. On the other side, Lazio probably has fatigue issues due to shorter rotation at the start of the season. Both teams to score is a reasonable bet option.

Daniel Garcia is originally from Basque Country, and as a kid who grew up just a few streets from Mendizorrotza Stadium, the choice of Deportivo Alavés as his favourite club is more than obvious. Because of his studies, he moved to Madrid where he graduated in Sports Journalism. Daniel plays football on the weekends, but that does not stop him from watching all La Liga matches. He believes that the outcome of a match can be predicted if all the parameters are analyzed well, including form of the players and weather conditions. Currently he is living in Belgrade, and is in love with a Serbian girl who works as a journalist at one of the famous Sport Channels in Serbia.
